Vall Fosca is a project based entirely on the use of field recordings made during a family trip in 2020 to the Vall Fosca region. For this process, Oniric Cat used a TASCAM portable recorder, with which he captured nature sounds, foley, ambient sounds, and environmental noises with a very clear premise: to create music using only that sound material as a source.
The result is a project comprised of three tracks in three very different styles, united by a common starting point: the landscape, the natural environment, and the transformation of real sound into musical composition. Each track is named after the location where the recordings were made, accompanied by an alternative English title that serves as a poetic concept for each piece.
'Cabdella (Short Circuit)' is constructed from recordings made at the former Cabdella Hydroelectric Power Station, now a museum. The sound material includes the power station's original turbine, sounds from interactive elements of the museum, rusty fences, and ambient noises such as dog barking, all of which are transformed and structured within the composition.
The energy of the track moves within a Industrial Acid Techno, forceful, mechanical and with a strong rhythmic charge that reflects the industrial character of the space where the recordings were made.
The Cabdella landscape was also the direct inspiration for the project's cover art, created by Kushu, an artist specializing in collage. The blue tones and a collage of the landscape reinforce the contrast between nature, industry, and the memory of the place.
💿 Mini NFC CD
This project also features a NFC mini CD for sale, designed with the same visual aesthetic. This special format includes the three tracks from the Vall Fosca project, as well as remixes, detailed production explanations, interviews, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, expanding the experience beyond simply listening to the music. The GPS coordinates of the Hydroelectric Power Plant are also printed on the mini CD itself, physically connecting the object to the real location where the project originated.
